HUD releases notice of second round of grant funding for Sustainable Communities Regional Planning
In June of 2011, the Partnership for Sustainable Communities (a joint effort by HUD, the DOT, and the EPA) released an Advance Notice for a second round of Sustainable Communities Regional Planning grant funding. As in the first round, there will be two categories under which regional planning organizations may apply: those who are still at the plan-creation stage and those who have a plan in hand and are ready for implementation.
Congratulations to all those who were awarded grants last year! A special congratulations to LEAMgroup clients East-West Gateway Council of Governments in St. Louis, who was awarded $4.68 million, and the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission of Peoria, who was awarded $1.2 million, and good luck to those who will try for round 2!
These grants require great coordination of regional partners to work toward a long-term sustainability plan that serves as many different aspects of an urban region, from the economy to land use and transportation to the environment, as possible. This is no small feat, and LEAMgroup will continue to provide the tools needed to efficiently support these coordination efforts, whether it be in the form of models, online data centers, or involving residents, workers, and other stakeholders in the process.
